TGS Update

To streamline operations some changes have been made to TGS today.
Firstly, there are no more online transfers - TGS accepts cash deposits only in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
TGS accepts bank wires from persons overseas in any country.
Secondly, TGS no longer accepts IBAN transfers into the Belgium bank account. Persons in Europe are now required to send a international bank wire (best to send in EUR).
Thirdly, the rate structure has changed back to 4% regardless of amount.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all TGS clients and I look forward to working with you in the future for all your e-gold needs.

The current currency exchange rates of the day are updated daily on the home page of the TGS website (up the top).
All orders will receive the current exchange rate of the day (as to the TGS home page) the day we receive your deposit / transfer in our bank account (you will be emailed a “funds received” email when this happens).

Critical Internet Explorer UN-Patched Vulnerability
Friday, September 22nd, 2006 Posted in News & Updates, Podcast | No Comments - Leave your comment »Panda Software reports a Microsoft Internet Explorer VML vulnerability which has been classified as critical and affects a large number of versions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
This vulnerability lies in the way in which Microsoft Internet Explorer handles VML (Vector Markup Language) graphics.
As a result, a hacker could host a specially-crafted web page that, when visited by users, forces the browser to silently download and run files. In fact, proof-of-concept code of this issue has been published.
Microsoft has not yet released the patch to fix this vulnerability.
In the meantime, users are recommended to disable execution of Java script in the Microsoft Internet Explorer settings.

Reported in ZDNet news (reported on our Industry and Security News page), Zeroday Emergency Response Team (ZERT) has released a unofficial patch to protect Internet Explorer users.
It is expected that Microsoft will not have anything to protect their software users until the 10th of next month.

We have been updating the website over the last week adding some new functionality which will hopefully be helpful to many. For example, now most pages have a “print” link on the bottom for easy printing.
The FAQ pages have been updated to better reflect typical question and answers and some (?) question marks have been put around the site linking to particular questions.
We have also added a new page called “Industry and Security News” where you will find posts from the e-gold and GoldMoney’s DGC Chat list and various computer security and virus update websites.

Telephone address books, a new danger

These systems are on many occasions replacing traditional telephone calls, as broadband connections can allow good-quality voice transmission at no extra cost. As added services, these programs include phonebooks to enable making calls without having to look for telephone numbers. However, entries in these phonebooks should never include addresses or telephone numbers that could compromise the security of users’ financial data.
For example, banking services should be dialed directly as, just with classic phishing techniques, an attacker could replace these numbers with others. In this case users, when trying to communicate with their bank, could really be calling a completely different number, and could therefore unwittingly reveal authentication details such as username and passwords which could then be used to operate the account fraudulently.
As with VoIP systems, bank numbers should not be stored on cell phones, as, similarly, calls made without checking the number could be redirected.
Oxygen3 advises users to ensure that any automatic dialing device is not accessible to others, especially if it includes the numbers of banks or other services that could jeopardize the security of users’ identity. As with basic security measures against phishing, telephone numbers of this type should be dialed directly by the user, rather than relying on a phonebook that could have been tampered with.
Likewise, phone numbers should be checked before they are used, as an attacker could have managed to publish a false number in order to trick users into revealing authentication details by redirecting them to a call center.
